Passing
“Pass With a Purpose”. This is a mantra that players should keep in mind when trying to make passes. A pass is not simply kicking the ball away from you, but moving the ball strategically to another player on the field. When looking for players to pass the ball to, the player closest to you is usually a good choice, unless they are being covered. Passes can be long or short, on the ground or in the air, but good passes reach their target.
Passing involves being aware of where other players on the field are, so players should be taught to look up when dribbling and to communicate verbally to each other. |
Passing the Ball
•Find a target
•Approach the ball
•Plant the non-kicking foot so that the toes is pointed in the direction that you want the ball to go in.
•Keep your eye on the ball
•Keep ankle locked and contact the ball in correct area for type of pass being made
•Follow-through with kick, meaning foot/leg should continue towards the intended target
•After kick, weight should move forward to kicking foot
